Specialist Prosthodontist OCCLUSION – MAYBE FORGOTTEN BUT STILL GAME CHANGING! Dentistry has not been left behind in this modern age, with new techniques and materials being introduced in such rapid succession that it is difficult for the average practitioner to adapt and apply these in everyday practice. Past “fads” seem to have become unfashionable – OCCLUSION being one of these. In reality though, occlusion impacts on every aspect of restorative dentistry and prosthodontics. New and old technologies and materials will often fail if there is an inadequate consideration of the inter-relationship of the various components of occlusion. This presentation will look at how occlusion affects long-term outcomes in routine restorative and prosthodontics, with particular emphasis on implant dentistry and periodontally compromised dentitions. Welcome to Dr Terry Walton AM, Specialist Prosthodontist. Terry obtained his Bachelor of Dentistry University of Sydney, 1974, Master of Dental Science University of Sydney, 1979, Master of Science (Prosthodontics), University of Michigan, 1981 and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, Terry also has Fellowships of The International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is in private specialist prosthodontist practice and concurrently Clinical Professor Affiliate in Clinical Dentistry, University of Sydney. Terry is a member of many dental organizations and associated committee positions including Co-President of the International College of Prosthodontists in 2000-2001. He is a reviewer for the International Journal of Prosthodontics, the Australian Dental Journal, the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation and Clinical Oral Implants Research Terry is involved in long-term outcome studies of tooth and implant-supported prostheses resulting in over 20 papers in refereed journals He was awarded an AM (Order of Australia, General Division) for services to Dentistry in 2007. |
