HAVE OUR TREATMENTS RECENTLY CHANGED?
The management of dental injuries is an ever-evolving science. Many traditional treatment options have recently been reviewed and modified. It is important that all dental professionals are aware of these changes and apply them to everyday practice , as the initial management of the traumatic injury can have a profound effect on long-term prognosis for our patients. To present the latest research findings on dento-alveolar trauma we have brought together a group of highly qualified endodontists who have
shown both a passion and talent for the education of current and future dental professionals.
At conclusion of this seminar participants will:
- · Identify those factors which require management at the initial and emergency triage.
- · Be aware when and how long splinting is required.
- · Understand the pulpal changes that may occur following trauma.
- · Describe the management of the fractured crown post trauma.
- · Apply knowledge on current thoughts on pulp capping and pulp preservation and revascularization.
- · Be able to implement a post trauma follow-up protocol.
- · Be aware of treatment strategies following trauma to the primary dentition.

A/Prof Phillippe Zimet BDsc (Melb), MSOB (Maryland), Cert Endo (Maryland), FRACDS FICD FADI
Endodontist, Phillippe Zimet is the Associate Professor in Endodontics at the La Trobe University School of Dentistry and Oral Health. He obtained his Masters Degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, USA. Phillippe is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, The Academy of Dentistry International and The International College of Dentists. He has published, and lectured nationally and internationally in many aspects of endodontics and infection control. Academic appointments include Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne Dental School, and for 20 years he was the Consultant Endodontist at Monash Medical Centre. Dr Kim Mai Dang BDS(Syd,Hons) DCD(Melb,Endo) Endodontist, Dr Kim Mai Dang obtained her Bachelor of Dentistry degree with Honours from the University of Sydney in 2008. She worked in private general practice and the public sector prior to undertaking her specialist endodontic training at the University of Melbourne. She obtained her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics in 2013. Dr Dang enjoys all aspects of endodontics, and has a special interest in the management of dental trauma. She has served as a committee member of the Australian Society of Endodontology (Vic Branch) and holds clinical teaching appointments at both La Trobe University and the University of Sydney. Dr Dang is also involved in delivering lectures within Australia. Dr Dang is a member of the Australian Dental Association, the Australian Society of Endodontology and the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontics. Dr Daniel Felman BDSc (Hons), DCD, FRACDS Endodontist Dr Daniel Felman is a registered specialist Endodontist. He qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Science with Honours and a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics, both from The University of Melbourne. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, a Member of the Australia New Zealand Academy of Endodontists and a Committee Member of the Australian Society of Endodontology (Vic). In addition to his specialist private practice commitments, Dr Felman is the Endodontic Specialist Consultant at Monash Medical Centre. Prior to specialising, he was in private general practice for six years and is a former President of the Australian Society of General Dentistry (Vic). Dr Felman has lectured widely, both locally and nationally, and is actively involved in teaching endodontics as a clinical demonstrator and lecturer at the University of Melbourne and La Trobe University. Dr Artika Patel BDS (Otago), DClinDent (Otago) Endodontist, Dr Artika Soma is a registered specialist endodontist with the Dental Boards of Australia and New Zealand. Dr Soma was born and raised in the Fiji Islands. As recipient of the prestigious Equity & Merit scholarship, she moved to New Zealand to study for a Bachelor degree in Dental Surgery. She graduated from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2004. Dr Soma worked in the endodontic department at the Sydney Dental Hospital from 2005 to 2006, during which time she was also involved with teaching in the Faculty of Dentistry and decided to specialise in endodontics. In 2009 Dr Soma graduated with a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent), specialising in endodontics, from the University of Otago, New Zealand. While in New Zealand, she was involved with undergraduate teaching and worked part-time in a private general dental practice limited to endodontics. Dr Soma moved to Melbourne in early 2010 and has been working at the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital and in a private specialist endodontic practice since March 2010. Dr Soma is a member of the Australian Dental Association, the New Zealand Dental Association and the Australian Endodontic Society. Dr Averil Tse BDS, DCD(Endo) Endodontist Dr. Averil Tse undertook her undergraduate dental training at the University of Otago, New Zealand, graduating with Distinction in 2001. Averil then worked as a Dental House Surgeon for two years at Auckland and Middlemore Hospitals in New Zealand, before entering general private practice. Averil came to Melbourne to commence her specialist training in Endodontics at the University of Melbourne, graduating with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in 2009. Since then, Averil has been in full-time specialist private practice at Endodontic Associates. Averil is also involved in lecturing and teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate dental students at the University of Melbourne and La Trobe University in Bendigo. Averil has lectured on various topics including diagnosis and management of cracked teeth and repair of perforations at continuing education meetings in Victoria. Averil has a special interest in the management of traumatic dental injuries and cracked teeth. Averil currently serves on the Australian Society of Endodontology (VIC Branch) committee, and is the Chairperson for the Australian Dental Association (VIC Branch) regional study group in the city. Dr Sara Firouzabadi BDSc (Hons) (QLD) DCD (Endo) (Vic) Endodontist, Dr Sara Firouzabadi – received her Bachelor of Dental Science degree with Honours from the University of Queensland in 2003 and worked in private general practice in Brisbane for several years. Sara moved to Melbourne to commence her specialist training in Endodontics at The University of Melbourne and received her Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics in 2009. Dr Firouzabadi is currently in private endodontic practice at North Western Endodontic Services Moonee Ponds, Melbourne. Dr Firouzabadi is actively involved in a variety of endodontic professional associations. From 2012-2014 she held the position of Federal Secretary / Treasurer of the Australian Society of Endodontology (ASE Inc.). Dr Firouzabadi is currently the Victorian Federal Councillor of the ASE Inc. a position she has held since 2012. She has also been involved in the Asian Pacific Endodontic Confederation (APEC) and has previously held the position of Treasurer of this association. Dr Firouzabadi enjoys all aspects of modern endodontics, however has a particular interest in the management of dental trauma and cracked teeth. Sara also enjoys management of paediatric patients. Sara has lectured and been involved with continuing education activities for the ADA Victorian Branch, ASE, APEC, La Trobe University and The University of Melbourne. Dr Firouzabadi is a member of The Australian Dental Association and The Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontists. |
